This turned out to be a very improvised performance of the Jag, and the Carols and songs.
Geoff Turner was unable to perform, so this left poor Bob Schild to play all the female parts. Also, Eamon Greene was not available, so Jim Hancock, still recovering from a recent hip replacement operation, played the Fool for the first time. The sword dance was performed by 5, instead of 6, creating a different shaped ‘nut’ from the normal hexagon, but only the jaggers would noticed. This performance is one, like the York performance in 1994, that could have been totally misleading to archivists such as Cecil Sharp or Percy Grainger, had they been present.
